In 1992 the British brand Jaguar created a new supercar design called XJ220 . This model was created to cover the need to create a new model that could be used to compete and destroy the other cars on the circuit track, but also looking for a car in which after competing in the circuit and winning the other riders , they could return home with that same car model without having to be transported with the help of other vehicles or leave them in the circuit boxes. This project was a new work and they had to contribute interesting new and valuable data for those developments and for future road and circuit vehicle projects and at the same time continue to advance successfully in such a successful project. Jim Randle, the designer of the car, made his arrangements and had the favor of the suppliers to make a concept car. The model still did not have official approval by the brand, so the first prototype was built with few economic resources. In fact, this design exercise was only officially approved a week before its debut. The XJ220 Concept was completed in the early hours of October 18, 1988, the same day the car was to be shown at the Birmingham International Auto Show.
The Jaguar XJ220 owes its name to the maximum speed that could reach 220 mph (354 km / h) , as happened with the legendary Jaguar XK120 . The Jaguar became the star of the Birmingham show. Ferrari had brought the extraordinary F40 a bright red color, but it had a very high aspect of sportiness next to the elegant new Jaguar model. The English firm had no intention of selling the XJ220 in the form of a production vehicle. However, when a good number of fans offered blank checkto acquire the concept, the initial intention changed. After an initial period evaluating the production costs, Jaguar communicated its intention to manufacture a limited series to satisfy the unexpected demand. The team of engineers began to work, studying the adversaries of the time like the Porsche 959 . They quickly decided that it was best to abandon all-wheel drive, and develop a much simpler rear propulsion system . This decision saved weight and avoided more research and more hours of development to the engineers. Another significant change came with the change of the engine. The original V12 with 6.2 liters of displacement, was passed to a block V6 biturbo with 3.5 liters of displacement, much lighter and efficient in terms of consumption and emissions. These radical changes with respect to the original concept led to many of the initial reserves being canceled. More details on car cover waterproof.
Although the final production model did not have a powerful V12 engine, as planned, the XJ220 is still an impressive machine. Officially, Jaguar promised a time of 3.6 seconds in the acceleration maneuver from 0 to 100 km / h. However, the specialized media of the time, such as the Americans of Road & Track, only managed to reach 4.8 seconds , a time quite far from what was promised by the brand. In addition, the pilot of Formula 1, Martin Brundle , managed to reach a top speed of 212 mph ( 342 km / h ), but warned that the limiter of revolutions of the engine, prevented the car to gain more speed. In this way, after undergoing some technical modifications, such as the elimination of the exhaust system catalysts, a maximum speed of 350 km / h was achieved .
At that time, the catalysts were not mandatory, so the English sprinter’s record was considered valid. In this way, the Jaguar XJ220 enjoyed the title of the fastest street car in the world until the arrival of McLaren F1 in 1998 , with its 386 km / h maximum speed. In 1991 , a prototype of the Jaguar XJ220 was in the German circuit of the Nürburgring performing some tests. He recorded an impressive return to the track in 7: 36.46 and made it the fastest production car to go around the ‘ Green Hell ‘. In 1993 , Jaguar played the 24 hours of Le Mans with three units of the XJ220-C . The English team won the GT category , beating a legion of Porsche. Great news for Jaguar.
UNPUBLISHED HISPANIOLA SUI CALLED “CARMEN”
The new Hispano Suiza Carmen , the hyper-sport with which the historic Spanish manufacturer will return to the market almost 80 years after producing its latest model. It is the new model of presentation at the Geneva motor show of this 2019, with which they created a great expectation for the characteristics that they announced about this hyper-sport developed in Barcelona. Let’s start! Before talking about the new model of Hispano Suiza, we are going to show you the model in which the company has been inspired to create and manufacture this incredible model. After 80 long and stretched years, the brand wanted to bet on something new and that makes us hallucinate with the level of development they have carried out.
This is the model of 1938, the Dubonnet Xenia, with an avant-garde design
André Dubonnet, a racing and military pilot in the Second World War, was in love with the automobile and felt a special predilection for the Hispano Suiza. The past of André Dubonnet as an aviator influenced palpably in the design of this car. This influence is felt both outside and inside. The rear wheel was covered to improve aerodynamics. It stood out its big grille for the ventilation of the engine and the system of opening of the doors, retractable. The interior, of great luxury, had three seats, two front and one rear intermediate, with a space adjusted to the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The trunk was designed to accommodate a set of suitcases specific to this car. Its engine is a Hispano Suiza of 6 cylinders in line, 7981 cm3 and 160 HP that allows it to reach 177 km / h. He won the most elegant closed car prize in the 2000 edition of the Pebble Beach Elegance Contest. At that time, a car with these characteristics was really a dream come true for a legend like the pilot Dubonnet, with which, to this model they put their name for the gratitude and for the remarkable admiration that existed between both parties.
Its creators are the Sequel Mateu , the brand’s creative family, associated with other partners in their day, they have manufactured this exclusive model called Carmen, in honor of the granddaughter of the founder and mother of the current president. With this model, they used to combine the traditional classicism of their design with the latest technologies. It has been designed, developed and manufactured in a traditional way in Barcelona, starting from a super rigid monocoque of carbon fiber that has also been manufactured by hand, as the canons of luxury.
This impressive and remodeled model has created 100% electric, with a range of about 400 km and with an electric power of about 1,000 hp capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2 seconds. They have done an impressive job with help and the development of the team of the company QEV Technologies. An engineering company also based in Barcelona and with extensive experience in electrical technology, which has links with the Formula E where it collaborates with the Mahindra team and Campos Racing , as well as working as a European R & D center for the Chinese brand BAIC . As for the interior, the Carmen combines luxury and classic style with materials such as leather and Alcantara fabric and also carbon fiber. It includes an ambient light system based on LED and an instrumentation with a 10.1-inch touch screen and a multimedia system with an audio equipment that provides 360-degree sound.
Hispano Suiza Carmen has a starting price of 1.5 million euros, with a production of 19 models and the brand claims to have 60 purchase requests , more than triple the units planned for manufacturing. Acquiring it will force you to pass a selection process and the brand, like another of your curiosities, will force by contract not to be able to resell it in a minimum term of 3 years . Miguel Suqué Mateo , president of the brand, relates , “we had many years to be able to re-circulate a Hispano Suiza on the roads of the entire planet”. As always, we leave you the official video of the brand in question so that you can watch this impressive model roll through the streets.
